Quality Adaptations

Check out Altered Carbon on Netflix, an adaptation of Richard K. Morgan's 'Takeshi Kovacs' series - a cyberpunk noir sort of story. I'm 4 episodes in, and so far it's doing the books justice.

Also looking forward with great interest to 'The Witcher', also on Netflix when it debuts (probably next year).

I watched the entire Altered Carbon season. I thought the story was interesting, but I have to say the acting was not the greatest. Some of the characters were really good and some were really sub-par.

I can see that. Speaking of bad acting, check out the Shannara Chronicles (also on Netflix). HO-LY SHIT!

Haha! I had heard negative feedback about that show before. I was never able to get into the Shannara series, even in book form. Always seemed like a giant rip off of Tolkien.

It is egregiously, shamelessly derivative of Tolkien, but I would think that if you were shameless enough to adapt it to television, and were operating with a Netflix sized budget, you would presumably cast people who had at least heard of the profession of acting before setting foot onto your set.

Are you into anime at all? I was addicted to the Sword Art Online anime that is on Netflix right now. There is two seasons at about 25 20min episodes a piece. Really delves into the what ifs of virtual reality, what is real and what is fake, survivors guilt, VR as therapy, etc. Pretty cool themes.

Some. I might check that out.
