Nintendo's breakout success was due to their capturing the interest of western markets. All this weird shit they're doing the past few years is catering to the weird Japanese.
I think Nintendo has always targeted the youngest of the video game market with their gimmicks and not so much just the Eastern market. I don't know if this is smart or not but they have managed to stay in the industry for a long time. The Switch has really taken off, I'm just not sure this will.
